Sabattus MountainWe have had to go a little further afield for evening hikes. This time it is Sabattus Mountain in Center Lovell. You see our leaves are starting to come out. The blackflies are too; I had to wave them away from the front of the lens sometimes.
When I crouched down to take the photo of this mayflower I smelled the aroma of all the flowers along this stretch of trail.
The view from the cliff at the top. There is Pleasant Mountain in the background beyond the hills of Sweden.
Kezar Lake and Mount Washington
Blueberry flowers, a summer promise
Fields of Sweden and Highland Lake in Bridgton in the distance
The old firetower piers
There were no trillium along the trail, but these were along the road near the trailhead.
All photos except this last one taken with the Fuji X-E1. It really goes through the batteries. Spring
It was a rainy evening. I stopped in the parking area looking down Long Lake and watched the raindrops on the windshield.
The yellow of forsythia seems to fit the coolness of early morning sunlight, but this warm late afternoon light made it really stand out. Pleasant Mountain ledgesHere is our last trail up Pleasant Mountain: Ledges trail.
There was still leftover from all the snow we received the day before. This is the start of the view over Moose Pond.
The view from the first set of ledges.
Converted to black and white with LR6.
In-camera B&W.
Mayflowers and snow.
Vagaries of springApril 26.
Skiing anyone? Pleasant Mtn. from the WestThis is the next in my series on the trails up Pleasant Mountain. Only one more trail to go.
This time we actually took the trail all the way to the summit. Including time for photos, it took about 1:15. It was a very nice evening for a hike: comfortable temperatures, dry, no biting insects (yet).
The second and last bridge. The trail follows along streams as it climbs.
One of the bigger patches of remaining snow.
This is pretty much the only view from the trail.
The summit approach.
The abandoned firetower on the summit.
Views to the west with Mount Washington.
Our last hike up Southwest Ridge trail took us to the top of the hill just to the right of those towers.
Old granite foundation stones for the hotel which used to be on the summit of Pleasant Mountain.
We made it back down in time for sunset.
The old farmhouse at the end of the trail.
And one of the outbuildings across the road. Next we plan on climbing Ledges Trail. The black flies should be out by then.
