Small sailboats

In Portland there is a sailing school that goes out on Casco Bay.

Old headstones

Whilst driving through the Stroudwater area of Portland, this caught my eye:

The headstone was too hard to read, so I explored some others and found this husband and wife from 1756 and 1796 respectively.

"Here lyes Buried the Body of Charles Frost Efq Who Departed this Life January 4 AD 1756 in y 46 year of His Age"

"In memory of Mrs Joanna Froft Relict of the late Charles Froft Efq of Falmouth [the original name for Portland] who died Jan. 7th 1796 Aged 80 years"

These are not the oldest markers in this cemetery. The history here is amazing, not morbid.

Pleasant Mtn. early spring

Southwest Ridge Trail on Pleasant Mountain is new to me. This is an interesting time of year to hike since there are no leaves on the deciduous trees which means the woods seem open. Views start before you get into the clearings.

Our feathered friend (black-capped chickadee).

Maybe I am giving this away, but, here is the tepee.

And the only snow left on this side of the mountain.

All photos, Fuji X-E1 with 18-135 mm. Photos taken March 30.

Pleasant Mtn. winter's end

Last year I posted about a hike up Pleasant Mountain taken at the end of March. To contrast this winter with last, here is what it looked like last Friday (March 18).

Still waterfalls, but where is the snow?

This is the Bald Peak trail, which has seen a lot of trail work.

A new viewpoint; see the causeway on Moose Pond?

New trail signs

The snow at the top. There is some ice still on the north part of Moose Pond.

The fire tower on the main peak.

It was a beautiful evening's hike. This winter has been a lot different than last year.
