Pop, as in soda-pop

Route 66 is known for its unique roadside attractions and Arcadia, Oklahoma does not disappoint. Friends treated me to a visit to Pop's, the name also displaying American regional dialect differences. This purveyor of pop, or soda as it is called back east, has bottles from around the world on its shelves. We are talking Brazil, Australia, and even Moxie and Capt'n Eli's from Maine.

Just feast your eyes on those backlit bottles. No, those are for display only. Buy yours from the cooler or shelves. $2.19 a pop, as it were, except for a few certain specials.

And the giant Pop bottle itself for thirsty Route 66 travelers to see.

We narrowed purchases down to this selection and returned home for a pop-tasting replete with borrowed vintage shot glasses. From left to right: Bundasberg, a very fine peach favored by all; Leninade, who could resist the communist soda with its Cyrillic label; a cherry cola unliked by all; Dr. Pepper with real sugar; Izze peach, need I say more?; Fentiman's excellent Curiosity Cola; maybe it was the Hippo soda that was distasteful; Cream Soda for those who like it; Moxie for the very few who can even though they aren't from Maine; and a sweet Brazilian fruit soda. Plenty to refresh on an Oklahoma summer day.

It was such a unique place that I had to make a second visit. And if I'm nearby again someday, I'll have to check it out again. Is it always so busy?
