This time it is on to West Quoddy Head for the first glimpse of sunrise in the nation (at this time of year), then on to Lubec, Cutler, Jonesport, and points in between.

Lubec is a small town just up the coast where you see the bridge which crosses to Campobello Island, New Brunswick.

You may just see a seal poking its head up out of the water below and left of the boat. That is Mulholland Point Light in Canada.

Heading down the coast, Cutler is the next town of size:

You have to head back inland before reaching Jonesport. These blueberry barrens are along the way.

Then to Jonesport.

And now looking back from Beal's Island to Jonesport.

It continues like this with many villages to explore.

A final view of Mount Desert Island from the mainland. You can see sunlight glinting off cars traveling up Mount Cadillac.

Next, foliage, and have we been having some brilliant colors after a late start.

Welcome to Eastport

It was my first ever visit to Washington County, Maine. We drove in on the Airline, but it was late evening of a cloudy day so no photos. This is U.S. Route 1 the next day. After the main purpose of the trip, cycling, was complete, I had some time for exploring.

First, Eastport. In the next post I'll show you other places.

The tide comes in with a rush. There is around 14 feet difference between high and low tide around here.

Vinalhaven - Maine coast

September weather can be so amazing here in Maine and this trip to Vinalhaven island allowed for its full enjoyment.

The Vinalhaven ferry leaves from Rockland.

We had to wait for the ferry to fuel up.

What is that stone marker in the channel between North Haven and Vinalhaven? North Haven is in the background here.

I think I recognize this set of three buildings from a magazine article (Vinalhaven).

This is a preview of an upcoming and more complete posting.

Late afternoon view of Rockland Breakwater light again from the Vinalhaven ferry.

I've narrowed 360+ photos down to 78 but that is still too much for a blog post. Back to Lightroom.

Blackberries

The trick here is to get them before the bears do; blackberries, I mean.
