PhippsburgWhilst you are waiting for a continuation of the previous post, I'll put this up: Phippsburg. After the day out snowshoeing, we stopped in Phippsburg on the way home. It looks quite different snowbound.
The Kennebec River and Magala Island.
Squirrel Point Light across the Kennebec River.
Winter at the seasideWinter at the seaside, or snow on the beach. You will have to wait until the next post to see the whole story, but here is a sample for now.
Morse Mountain, in Phippsburg, Maine, was a spectacular place for snowshoeing now that the Maine coast has all this snow.
There is more to share. SnowshoeingCan you tell if it will be a good day for snowshoeing by the sunrise?
A Norway pine -- so-called because it was first found in Norway, Maine, which just a little northeast of here.
Kezar Lake is back there, and the highest point on the hazy horizon is Pleasant Mountain in Bridgton.
Hackmatack swampWinter's snows make it much easier to visit the hackmatack (or tamarack or larch trees) swamp out back. The wind was blowing out of the north, spreading the snow in clouds and drifts.
This is a haven for wildlife. There were many deer tracks and a beaver lodge.
I think these holes in the top of the lodge are melted from the beavers' breath.
Ski area, Shawnee Peak (on Pleasant Mountain, Bridgton) at night. I wanted to see how the Fuji XF1 did with the low light shot. (Actually, this is my second XF1 as the first one got the sticky aperture failure.)
