Lake Living photo session
Since the summer issue of Lake Living magazine is out now I'll take a break from travel photos and describe the photo session for the cover photo.
In my conversation with the publisher about cover photo ideas, we both thought it would be fun to continue our theme of having Lily on the cover. (2015, 2014) Since one subject in this issue would be the 60th anniversary of the Bridgton Drive-In Theater it seemed like we should get a period car. So I talked with some friends and we came up with someone who had a wonderfully restored 1958 Ford Convertible and would be happy to join in the fun. Then one evening in late May the owner of the drive-in opened up just for us, popped corn for the girls, hung some of the old-style speakers on posts, and put images up on the screen.

We were impatient. In late May in Maine it takes a long time to get dark.

Finally it was dark enough and I brought out the two remote speedlights.

This one didn't work. Who would know that when you stopped the film at a certain point it would make the actor look like he had only one leg.
In the end we ended up with three final images to choose from:

To see which one finally made it to the cover, pick up your own issue or visit the Lake Living magazine site.
Thank-you to everyone who made this photo shoot possible, Laurie, Lake Living's publisher (and patient holder of one of the speedlights); Lily and her friend, Katie; Lily's aunt, Perri; John, the owner of the drive-in and supplier of popcorn (congratulations to you and your family on 60 years); and Bob Hatch, the generous owner of the car. You may all collect your free copies of the magazine as a show of our appreciation...
