Remember that fire tower from a previous post? Clouds were swirling around North Kearsarge around sunset and I shot a series of images showing it in and out of the clouds. Here is a tight crop of one image. To make this image, I braced the Nikon D600 with the 70-300 VR against a tree. The exposure was 1/160 sec., f/ 5.6, ISO 100. Between the bracing and the VR, the image stayed clear even at that shutter speed.

Late afternoon Saturday there was an opportunity for a short hike up along Mad River in Evans Notch.

Peregrine falcons nest on those cliffs.

An old fireplace remaining from the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) days, I think. The CCC's built the road through the notch.

The goal for the expedition was this small waterfall. I didn't make it up to the much larger waterfall. Here Mad River does not seem to be living up to its name. Exposure times were very long because of the cloud cover and it was later in the day.
