Introduction
Photography has been in my family quite some time. My great-grandfather, J.V. Dedrick photographed everything from schoolchildren to Geronimo as he travelled away from his Texas studio and eventually to Tacoma, Washington. A great-uncle used slides for presentations of his Wycliffe work in Mexico. Our last family reunion looked like a bevy of paparazzi who turned to photographing each other because of the lack of celebrities. My first camera by the age of 5 was a Kodak Instamatic 126. At 13 I saved up for a real camera, the now-venerable Pentax K1000 -- it still sees service. This opening collage covers all the bases: my great-grandfather, J.V. Dedrick poses with camera in front of a dramatic cloudy background; one of my very first photographic efforts; and a photo of me at Point St. George, California working the camera.

These pages contain a representation of my photographs to date. It will continue to update with more images, so return often. The enlarged views of the gallery thumbnails will display in pop-up windows, so, if you have a pop-up blocker software it may need to be turned off.

Digital modifications include those used in the traditional darkroom: cropping, contrast masking, cleaning dust and minor scratches, and adjusting color, brightness, and contrast in an attempt to match the original piece of film. Now with digital capture, this is more complex. In this digital age of photography, alteration of an image is so very easy. Many photographers attempt to present the image true to how they saw it -- their vision. I try to identify  any manipulation to the images in their descriptions.

New photos will continue to be uploaded to the galleries. Please check out the Greater Bridgton Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce webpage where many of the photos displayed are mine.

Below is a photo taken on assignment for Lake Living Magazine:

This photo has been receiving some attention after being published above the fold on the front page of the Bridgton News. Besides print sales, the ski area in the photo, Shawnee Peak, has also asked to use it on their website.

fireworks over Pleasant Mountain

The image has an interesting story: it took three years to make. The first year I heard about the fireworks at Shawnee Peak and co-sponsored by the Porltand Symphony Orchestra as part of their 4th of July concert, I was unable to attend. The next year the display was cancelled because of construction. And then 30 June 2007, I  was able to get this photo. The sky really was this light because of how late the sun sets here in June. This photo has also been a challenge to print because of the deep shadows and the bright fireworks.
